The Blackout Box is powered by a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 4 GB of RAM, running a Linux-based operating system that boots from a 256 GB microSD card. The Raspberry Pi is connected to an IPS touchscreen display.

Power is supplied by a 5V/3A portable power bank, allowing the system to operate independently of external power sources. To prevent unnecessary battery drain while the system is not in use, a power disconnect switch completely isolates the power bank from the system. The power bank can be recharged either through a USB-C connection or by using the foldable solar panel stored inside the Apache case. The solar panel can be removed from the case and deployed outdoors to recharge the power bank when external power is unavailable. When a wall outlet is available, the system can also be powered directly using the included AC power adapter, preserving the portable power bank's charge.

The system also includes Bluetooth connectivity for pairing compatible wireless devices.

For connectivity and convenience, the system includes a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones or earbuds and a USB 3.0 hub that expands the available USB ports while supporting high-speed data transfer. A Bluetooth keyboard with an integrated trackpad is also included, allowing operation without the need for a separate mouse.
